The lift uses a hydraulic system to raise and lower the platform.

When you turn the key to the up position, the electric motor starts, turning the pump, and pumping hydraulic fluid out of the reservoir, into both hydraulic cylinders.

When fluid is pumped into each cylinder, the cylinder rods are pushed up, which pushes on pulleys. The pulleys push on a chain that has one end connected to the post near the base and the other end connected to the arm plate. By using a pulley system, the arm plate is raised 6 feet when the cylinder is expanded 3 feet. The arm plates are connected to two arms on each side, which, in turn support the lift table.

To lower the lift, you turn the key to the down position. This activates a solenoid, allowing the hydraulic fluid in the system to move through a regulator and escape back into the reservoir.

Two synchronizing cables run between the posts to ensure that the two cylinders raise and lower in tandem (not shown).

Once the lift is raised above 30 inches, the locking system is automatically activated. Locks on each post are engaged by lowering onto the closest tooth. Locks are disengaged by raising the lift and turning a blocking plate (not shown).
